Bishop England High School students, faculty, friends and family rallied together on September 30th for the 2007 Buddy Walk. It was a day filled with jump castles, free food and a one mile walk around Daniel Island.
The Buddy Walk is an annual event sponsored by the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry to raise awareness and appreciation for people with Down Syndrome. BE established Team Sam to support Sam, a freshman with Down Syndrome. We had 342 Team Sam members and donated $2,463 to DSAL. The donation helps provide services and programs to enhance the quality of life for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.
We are proud to announce that Bishop England won an award for the greatest number of participants and Dr. Cindi May won the “Walk the Walk” Award for her efforts in getting the Options Program established at BE. The Buddy Walk was a great boost for the Options Program and helped the BE community come together to embrace diversity. After attending the event, theology teacher Grace Curran stated “I figured out that the other chromosome is ‘affection’. People with Down Syndrome don't have an extra one - the rest of us are just missing it." |
